Astrid Allford RD
Specialist Paediatric Ketogenic Dietitian, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, UK.
Astrid graduated from Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh in 2010 with an honours degree in Dietetics. She began her career working within the adult setting and quickly developed a keen interest for Paediatric Dietetics. She has worked as a Paediatric Dietitian at the Birmingham Children’s Hospital (BCH) for the past 13 years within a wide range of clinical specialities. Astrid further specialised within the area of Ketogenic Dietetics and has over 6 years of experience working within the Ketogenic Multidisciplinary Team which now holds capacity for approximately 80 patients.
Astrid has been a site principal investigator and joint principal investigator on three feed acceptability trials during her time at BCH, two of which have been ketogenic specific feeds.
Astrid delivers Ketogenic Teaching and workshops for Dietitians as part of the Paediatric Module 3 “Clinical Dietetics for Infants and Children” British Dietetic Association Course.

Charlotte Howard RD
Specialist Paediatric Ketogenic Dietitian, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, UK.
Charlotte qualified as a dietitian with a First Class honours degree from King’s College London, and has worked as a Paediatric Dietitian within a wide range of clinical specialities. She has completed her Postgraduate Certificate in Advanced Professional Practice in Paediatric Dietetics.
She has worked within the neurology service at Birmingham Children’s Hospital (BCH) as a Specialised Ketogenic Dietitian for the past 5 years. The BCH service now holds capacity for approximately 80 patients.
Charlotte is dedicated to supporting Ketogenic Diet Therapy training for Dietitians. She supports the British Dietetic Association by delivering their Ketogenic Teaching and workshops for Dietitians as part of Paediatric Module 3 “Clinical Dietetics for Infants and Children”. She is also the co-secretary of the Ketogenic Dietitians Research Network.

Zoe Simpson PhD Candidate and Advanced Clinical Practitioner
RD, NMP, MSc, BSc (hons)
Zoe is an Advanced Clinical Practitioner at Great Ormond Street Hospital specialising in ketogenic diet therapy for children with epilepsy and GLUT1 deficiency. With over 14 years of NHS experience, she combines dietetic expertise with advanced clinical skills, including prescribing and managing treatment side effects. She is currently undertaking a PhD developing a parent‑reported quality‑of‑life measure for children on ketogenic therapy. Zoe also mentors clinicians globally and serves on the British Dietetic Association’s Professional Committee.
