Sara Viadero Prieto
Dietetic Assistant of Neurology & Ketogenic Diet
Great Ormond Street Hospital
Sara has spent the last three and a half years as a Dietetic Assistant at Great Ormond Street Hospital. Originally from Spain, Sara moved to the UK in 2018 in search of a career change and began working with children, which is one of her passions. In 2019, she volunteered at GOSH to assist dietitians before joining the ketogenic team in January 2020 where she has remained since then. Despite her lack of nutrition experience and short time with the GOSH KD team, she quickly established herself as a significant member of the team, assisting children and their families on their ketogenic journey. She also supports many different aspects for both inpatients and outpatients with a huge variety of neurological conditions.
Last year, she started the first apprentice scheme to run in the UK “MSc Dietetics and Leadership” to hopefully become a dietitian at the end of this year. The hopes are to specialise in paediatrics once she graduates. She enjoys working in ketogenics and believes that everyone should have access to this life-changing service. It is amazing to see how changing one’s diet can improve the quality of life for one’s family.

Richard Hallam
Dietetic Assistant, Ketogenic diet service at Royal Manchester Childrens Hospital
My name is Richard Hallam and I am a dietetic assistant in the ketogenic diet service at Royal Manchester Childrens Hospital. I completed a degree in Human Nutrition at Manchester Metropolitan University in 2012 and following this worked as a healthcare assistant supporting children with neurological disorders, in a residential unit. I became a dietetic assistant in Feb 2022 working initially in a district general hospital but moved to the Childrens hospital in Oct 2022 to work in the ketogenic diet service.
I enjoy my role within the ketogenic diet service and find the impact of the ketogenic diet amazing. It has inspired me to return to university to train as a dietitian and I have been accepted to study dietetics as an apprenticeship with Sheffield Hallam university in partnership with Manchester Foundation Trust. In future hope is that I can be a ketogenic dietitian to support children and young people with drug resistant epilepsy.

Pooja Gumber
PhD in Nutrition and Dietetics
My name is Pooja Gumber. I have 8 years of experience working in the Nutrition field as a Registered Dietitian in India and have dealt with a wide spectrum of Paediatric conditions. Whilst living in India I completed my PhD in Nutrition and Dietetics in 2019. I am passionate about children’s nutrition and am keen to progress onto becoming a dietitian in the UK.
I was appointed as a Daisy Garland Dietetic Support Worker at The Birmingham Children’s Hospital in 2022 and will change to the title of Ketogenic Dietetic Assistant in February 2024. I am really enjoying this unique work. This post has given me a great opportunity to support children with drug-resistant epilepsy and their families.
